Getting to Sedona, Arizona
Driving
Here's your Sedona Arizona travel guide to getting there. Sedona, Arizona is on State highway 179, and located at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon. Driving north from Phoenix, you really can't miss Sedona, starting out on I-17, then taking the 179 exit. If you're driving south towards Sedona from Flagstaff, also take I-17, but heading south of course. Take the 89A exit, which is marked Sedona.
Public Transportation
If you fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, you can catch the Sedona Phoenix Shuttle right from the airport. This convenient shuttle takes all the stress out of Sedona Arizona travel. It goes to Sedona several times a day and costs $85 round trip, $45 one-way. Stop are as follows:

Getting Around Sedona Arizona
Sedona Arizona is popular and relatively small, for the number of visitors driving here and spending time here. That means the streets of Sedona Arizona can get crowded and congested lots of the time, and you have to have patience and good will toward fellow travelers. The roads in and around town that lead to or run past the best views can be especially slow, as drivers can't help but slow down in the face of the majestic and fabulous red rocks.
One major point of orientation and a landmark often referred to in directions given by locals is the Y. The Y refers to the shape of roads that come together in Sedona Arizona: Arizona 179 and Arizona 89A, between uptown Sedona and the Tlaquepaque shopping area.
If you took the shuttle from the Phoenix airport, you can rent a car in Sedona Arizona. There's an Enterprise agency in town, as well as numerous other car rental agencies. If you want to rent something more unusual or fancy, try Red Rock Motorcycles on Highway 89A. Rent by the day or just for six hours. There's also Farrabee Jeep Rentals of Sedona, which charges by the day for rugged jeeps you can go just about anywhere in.
Visitor Information
Once you arrive in Sedona Arizona, you can get oriented and stock up on brochures and coupons at the Sedona-Oak Creek Canyon Chamber of Commerce Visitor center/Uptown Gateway Visitor Center. It's a great place to get informed about Sedona Arizona travel. It's located at 331 Forest Road at the intersection with 89A. 89A is the major route to Sedona Arizona so you really can't miss the Visitor Center as you approach town. It's open every day, even Sundays and Holidays. There's another visitor center near Sedona Arizona, called the South Gateway Visitor Center, at Tequa Plaza on Route 179 in the village of Oak Creek. Oak Creek also hosts the North Gateway Visitor Center, located at Oak Creek Vista Overlook, also on 89A so it's easy to find. This latter one is not open all year, however. It's closed during winter. The South Gateway Visitor Center is the place to get a Red Rock Pass, which is needed for parking at the trail heads in the area, if you want to go hiking. Get info on trails, too.
